Chapter Competition Information
Dear Math Counts
Teachers, Instructors, Advisors and Participants:
This winter we are pleased to host another day
of the annual middle school math competition, MATH COUNTS, at the Shasta
District Fairgrounds in Anderson, California. The event is scheduled for
Friday, February 25, 2005, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Schools are invited to
bring up to eight students, including one team of four students and up to
four individuals. Students compete for trophies and the opportunity to
represent our region at the state-wide competition in March. The winners
of the state competition then proceed to the National Competition in May
2005.
During the morning session Mathletes will
compete in various types of math problem solving. Continental breakfast
will be provided for everyone during registration. After the competition a
Pizza Luncheon will be provided while instructors begin tallying results
from the morning competition. The afternoon session consists of booths and
exhibits for student interaction with business professionals from the
community who exemplify the use of mathematics in our everyday lives and
careers. The day concludes with the announcement of results and an awards
presentation.
We’re really looking forward to this memorable
day for the students that may shape their futures more than even we can
imagine. If you would like to participate, please refer to your Math
Counts School Handbook or visit the website
www.mathcounts.org,
and be sure to return your registration materials to the national
registration center at PO Box 441, Annapolis Junction, MD, 20701,
postmarked no later than DECEMBER 10, 2004.
Sincerely,
Michelle Hannaford
